Australian Rules Football

Each year in March the "Aussie Rules" football season begins in Australia culminating in the Grand Final played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground before around 85,000 people in September.
In the past decade the game, which is administered from Melbourne, has gone National with 2 sides each from Adelaide and Perth, one from Sydney and one from Brisbane.
The success of these interstate teams reflects the strength of the game nationally with the Adelaide Crows winning the premiership in 1997 and 1998, Brisbane in 2000 and 2001 and the West Coast Eagles in 1992 and 1994. Victorian country team Geelong won the Premiership in 2007.
New South Wales and Queensland are traditionally the Rugby League States, and the AFL is gradually gaining a strong following in both these cities, from expatriates of southern AFL states, and by extensive television coverage and dynamic marketing strategies.
Australian Rules Football originated in the Irish Football game last century and has developed individually to become one of the most exciting team sports played.
