Alice Springs West. Redbank Gorge. Redbank Gorge - Western MacDonnell Ranges

Redbank Gorge
Redbank Gorge is the most distant gorge west of Alice Springs.

Redbank Gorge is reached by a track from a dirt road from Glen Helen towards Mt. Sonder.
The track into the gorge passes the Woodlands Camping Area which services the gorge.
Redbank is a narrow chasm through the red quartzite range and contains several water holes. These can be icy cold and wet suits or inflatable mattresses should be used to pass through them.
A 40 minute return walk along the creek to the waterhole and back is recommended. It is also a good place to access Mount Sonder from and an 8 hr return walk along the western section of the Larapinta Trail offers magnificent views for the experienced and fit walker.
