Merri St. This village overlooking Lady Bay recreates the atmosphere of an early Australian Coastal Village. The lighthouse and associated buildings, and the 1887 fortifications are the original features of the site. The village incorporates working navigational aids for Warrnambool's harbour and the original defences for the port. Recent developments include an intertretation centre, museum, restaurant and bar area. The complex is in the form of several cobblestone streets lines with quaint period shops and a wharf area with historic ships and a chandlers shop, customs house, etc. One os the features of the complex is the 'Loch Ard Peacock', a priceless porcelain example of Minton Pottery, recovered from the wreck of the 'Loch Ard' near Port Campbell in 1878. It is open daily and an admission charge applies. | |
