The Shipwreck Coast: Great Ocean Road: Victoria
In the early days of settlement timber cutters and farmers sent their produce to Geelong or Melbourne by coastal traders along this treacherous, reef-infested, stretch of water.
Ships bringing new arrivals from Endgland also arrived along this coast.
Dozens of ships, and many more lives were lost in this area.
Markers along the way point to where major shipwrecks lie. This one at Peterborough remembers the Falls of Halladale (1908) which laboured in the inlet before sinking.
