MURRUMBATEMAN - NEW SOUTH WALES
Small town on the Barton Hwy between Yass and Canberra which has developed an enviable reputation for its cool climate wine production. There are some 15 wineries in the region and hundreds of hectares under vines. Crisp winters followed by hot summers, mild autumn days and low fertility soils are ideal for producing wine with intense fruit character, many of which have won awards and medals at wine shows.
There are restaurants in Murrumbateman which offer an opportunity to relax with a fine meal and enjoy the local produce.
A short drive from Murrumbateman past the vineyards will take you to historic Gundaroo where the main street is much as it was 150 years ago and you can then proceed through Sutton to Canberra.
