Dairy town on the Bellinger River in the Bellinger Valley. Originally a timber and ship-building centre. Much of the town is classified by the Heritage Commission and many historic buildings can be seen. The Bellingen Museum has a large collection of photographs of early and pioneer settlement of the region. The Wheatley Emporium was the first concrete block construction in Australia and has recently been restored. The Bellingen Markets are held in Bellingen Park on the 3rd Saturday of each month.
