The 'Dog on the Tuckerbox'

Gundagai is on the Hume Highway between the turn off to Adelaide at the Sturt Highway, and Yass, the turn-off to Canberra.
Situated on the Murrumbidgee River, and near the alps, it is a popular stop-over for travellers along the highway, and a touring centre for the Riverina and Alpine regions.
Just north of the town, along the highway, is the "Dog on the Tuckerbox", a monument surrounded by visitor amenities which marks the point of a song and poem of the same name.
Gundagai is now by-passed by the highway, and as such has reverted to the quiet character of yesteryear and the facades and atmosphere of its main street are a pleasant change from many larger cities.
