Famous for game-fishing, with boating, swimming and watersports a feature, this popular south coast resort began as a private town owned by the Twofold Bay Pastoral Association which opened its port in 1855. The old School Museum in Main St displays the towns history in photographs, memorabilia and documents and the Merimbula Aquarium shows most forms of sealife found in the area in 27 display tanks. A jazz festival is held each June.
