One of the most northerly towns in New South Wales and near the southern entry
to "The Gold Coast'. Located in the heart of the Tweed Valley and surrounded by the rim of the Mt Warning volcanic caldera, it is a relaxed and pleasant stopoover where every direction enjoys a spectacular view. Activities include fishing on the Tweed River, and there is golf and bowls, but mainly the areas 3 World Heritage National Parks are the main attraction. On the Tweed River and surrounded by canefields, banana plantations and dairy farms, Murwillimbah was practically destroyed by fire in 1907. The Regional Art Gallery shows paintings, sculpture, pottery and photography and is home to the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.
