In the Wallamba Valley it is typical of many small North Coast towns on the Pacific Hwy and began
in the second half of the 19th century as a small river port for loading cedar trees for the Sydney market.
Later industry included dairying and agriculture, especially corn.
In the mid-1950s, the
Pacific Highway was re-aligned and Nabiac is now more of a service town
for travellers along the highway and to the nearby Lakes area.
Poet Les Murray was born and attended school here.
