Just south of the junctions of both the Snowy mountains Hwy and Sturt
Highways, and halfway between Melbourne and Sydney, Tarcutta is a small town on the Hume Highway, one of the few
which has not been bypassed, and a popular stop for travellers and truckies to break the journey. There is a small park in the main street which has a memorial to truckies who have lost their lives in the course of their work and it is always well attended and maintained by the hundreds of semi-trailer drivers who pass through each day. The centre of the road has a parking area for large vehicles and the food is excellent from the several shops which supply sustenance for the long haul drivers. Tarcutta is not only about drivers. It is at the centre of a popular touring area which includes the eastern Riverina, the alpine region and Wagga Wagga. There are several motels, a hotel and aother facilities. PLACES OF INTEREST: |
