ADELAIDE RIVER - NORTHERN TERRITORY
A colourful town 114 km south on the Stuart Highway, it is popular stop for travellers. The War Cemetery beside the river is a highlight of a Top End tour and remembers the servicemen killed in the bombing of Darwin in the 1940's.
A banana plantation is not far away and the Adelaide River Races and the Show held in June attracts large numbers.
Adelaide River is a focal point for cruises on the river which include the hand-feeding of crocodiles. Just north of the hotel off the western side of the road, are the ruins of an ammunition dump used during World War Two.
The Robin Falls are a short journey away to the south west, and worth the short drive and walk to reach them.
