South of Katherine the township has a fine wildlife park and nearby are the Mataranka hot springs, a series of waterholes fed from underground thermal springs, and set amongst luxurious tropical vegetation. It is also the centre for the book on Elsey Station by Aeneas Gunn 'We of the Never Never'. A replica of the homestead used in the movie of the same name stands in the grounds of the homestead.
