Caloundra Days mean lazing on the beach, exploring the scenic beauty of the hinterland, or cruising the Pumicestone Passage, spending a pleasant afternoon fishing or a day at the races, and when the day turns to night, there is night life to discover, restaurants to try and moonlit strolls on the beach.
Coloundra is all this and much more. Located an hour from Brisbane by road it is the gateway to the Sunshine Coast, one of Queensland's most popular tourist destinations. Each year, more people are discovering Caloundra.
It now boasts a population of 50,000 and although it is a City, the relaxed lifestyle remains one of its main attributes. Kawana Waters, north of Caloundra, is a rapidly growing residential and business area. It boasts the most modern marina, sporting and community facilities anywhere. Caloundra's beaches coupled with Pumicestone Passage, attracts thousands of holiday makers annually. Many of them return to live. There is safe swimming, good fishing and a wide range of sporting and recreational pursuits to enjoy, and of course, Caloundra has the ideal climate to take advantage of these activities. There are an average of seven hours of sunshine daily and the average temperature ranges from 22 degrees C in the winter through to 28 degrees C in the summer.
Southern visitors will find winter months pleasant. Although the mornings are crisp, the days are mild and do not belie the season. Although the beaches are the main attraction for the majority of visitors, the hinterland has much to offer. There are the picturesque Glass House Mountains, the lush rainforest and the panoramic views from the Blackall Range. You can lose yourself for a few hours, a few days or a few weeks. We are sure you'll discover why the Aborigines chose the name Caloundra for this unique corner of Queensland - it means 'beautiful place'.
The Super Bee, set in seven acres of tropical gardens, is an educational and entertaining stop for all the family. The hourly Beekeeping shows are a must. Australia's largest range of pure honey is awaiting your tasting. Just 2km. from Ettamogah Pub in Tanawha Tourist Drive.
