Located on an inlet on the south east section of the peninsula Coobowie is another of the many small settlements which make up the Yorke Peninsula community.
Early explorers had high hopes for Coobowie, even considering nit as the site for a large settlement but found there was little fresh water available despite the attractive location and other advantages including beautiful beaches and excellent fishing.
It is interestinbg to note that 3 Tasmanian bushranger escapees were captured here and transported back to Hobart where they were hung.
They claimed they were towed to Coobowie by a huge whale which is about the biggest fish story to come out of the peninsula despite many true stories of local records being set.
There is a coastal walking trail between Coobowie and Edithburgh, approximately 5km and highly recommended.
