EXPLORING THE BIRDSVILLE TRACK.

To get to the Birdsville Track you will need to begin at Marree in the south, or Birdsville in the north. Both are reached after long drives, much on loose surface roads, and with few facilities at either end.
Be prepared to take everything you need with you to ensure you can reach your destination at the other end. A $10 fan belt in Adelaide or Brisbane may cost you hundreds of dollars to have delivered to you in the middle of the Outback.
Ample food and water to keep you going for a few days is essential and remember, unless you have a satellite phone there is little chance a mobile will work anywhere along the road.
Just be sure you make a few wise decisions before you leave, have good camping equipment, and notify a responsible person of your departure and expected arrival times and you can relax and enjoy the wonderful country which comprises the vast Australian outback.
Limited accommodation is available at Marree, Birdsville and the Mungerannie Roadhouse Hotel about half way along the track.
