EXPLORING THE CLARE VALLEY.

To get to the Clare Valley take the Main North Road (A20) through Elizabeth and Gawler and turn on tothe Barrier Hwy (A32) off the Gawler Bypass which will take you through Roseworthy towards BrokenHill.
Just north of Tarlee you can take either fork in the road to reach the Clare Valley. The right fork will pass through the rural towns of Riverton, Saddleworth, Manoora and Hanson to Burra while the left forktakes you through Auburn and the small winery towns of Leasingham, Watervale and Penwortham to Clare.
Whichever way you go you should take the road into Mintaro and visit Martindale Hall and the Slate Quarryas a minor detour.
For those who have the time I suggest you also travel north from Burra to the small township of Hallett andtake the road out to the home of trhr late Sir Hubert Wilkins , one of Australia's great pioneers and adventurers and see the display there devoted to this extraordinary man.
There are information centres at Clare and Burra which will provide you with plenty of thins to see and do.The remains of the mines in Burra will take a day to explore and the wineries around Clare are among the best in the world.
You should allow at least two days for this tour althougn it begins only a little over 100 km. from Adelaide.
