    Via The Pacific Highway

    The road between Brisbane and Sydney travels for much of the way along the beside the Pacific Ocean and is one of Australia's most scenic.
    Many major centres will be found along the way, the most significant being Newcastle and Grafton. Just south of Brisbane you will pass through the surf playground of Surfers Paradise and Southport.
    The following summary of the road includes general information and links to some of the towns and attractions along the way
    BRISBANE:
    Brisbane is the Capital of Queensland and enjoys a semi-tropical gateway to the Barrier Reef and the Queensland Outback.

    THE GOLD COAST:
    Australia's beach resort comprising kilometres of golden beaches and with plenty of accommodation and nightlife. Jupiters Casino is one of the popular places to visit.

    MURWILLUMBAH:
    Located on the Tweed River and surrounded by canefields, banana plantations and dairy farms,

    BYRON BAY:
    Byron Bay is located about 800 km north of Sydney and 200 km south of Brisbane. It is a popular tourist destination and the headquarters of Byron Shire

    BALLINA:
    Located at the mouth of the Richmond River and on the Pacific Ocean north of Sydney and a major touring centre for Byron Bay, Casino and Evans Head

    GRAFTON:
    On the Clarence River, Grafton is renowned for its Jacaranda Festival, held each October/November, and its colonial style buildings.

    COFFS HARBOUR:
    At the centre of Banana growing country and home of the "Giant Banana".

    NAMBUCCA HEADS:
    Popular holiday resort at the mouth of the Nambucca River.

    KEMPSEY:
    Commercial and touring centre in the Macleay Valley.

    PORT MACQUARIE:
    Pretty seaside town on the coast east of the highway.

    TAREE:
    Surrounded by national parks and astride the Manning River, Taree is a major city on the Holiday Coast

    FORSTER:
    The largest centre in the Great Lakes Region with its sister city Tuncurry

    NEWCASTLE:
    New South Wales second largest city and gateway to the Hunter Valley wineries area. From here the New England Highway takes an alternative inland route via Tamworth to Brisbane.

    GOSFORD:

    SYDNEY:

    Australia's largest city and host for the year 2,000 Olympics. Situated on Sydney Harbour and surrounded my mountains and fascinating places to see and visit.

    It's important to make sure you have properly prepared yourself for a long drive. Have your car checked for reliability and be sure to have all necessary vehicle registrations and insurance in case you are pulled over.
