Lilydale is a medium size town in the Tamar valley region, just north east of Launceston.
The Lilydale Falls are 3km from the small township and a popular recreation area with
picnic facilities. There are 2 oak trees in the reserve grown from acorns originating in
the Great Park at Windsor and planted on Coronation Day, May 12th 1937. The reserve comprises two attractive falls, one above the other. There are picnic and BBQ facilities at the park. The W.A.G. Walker Rhododendron Gardens are nearby and are a blaze of colour in season. Nearby Mt. Arthur offers bushwalkers a variety of tracks and trails along scenic routes. There is a car park to leave vehicles at the old site of the radio telephone. The Hollybank Forest Reserve will be found just south of Lilydale at Underwood and is a plantation area with stands of ash, pinus and other varieties. There is a picnic area at the reserve. The Lilydale region was settled in 1861 and is now a rich dairy and farming area with several wineries to the north.
