The small township of Tarraleah on the Lyell Highway was established as part of the construction of the enormous Hydro-Electricity system of the Central Highlands. More recently it has been established as a highlands resort with facilities including a cafe restaurant, motel units, camping and caravan sites, and some wonderful scenery. The view down the pipes to the Tungatinah Power Station below is one of the most spectacular of the vast hydro system.
