This tiny town on the Tyenna River is one of the most important tourism towns in Tasmania. Located at
the junction of roads which lead from New Norfolk to Maydena, Strathgordon and Hamilton, it is a junction
for some of the most scenic and historic parts of the state. The Mt Field National Park is just west of the town on the Maydena Rd and features the Russell Falls, easily accessible and dramatic after heavy rains. There are walks through the park and the higher reaches are ski venues in winter. The drive to Westerway follows the beautiful Derwent River for most of the way, passing through lovely villages and rich agricultural lands covered with fruit, hops and grazing animals. Westerway has several accommodation places, service stations, takeaway food outlets, galleries and is a great place to stop for a break before heading north or west.
