CRADLE COAST TOURING MAP

Exploring Cradle Country from Devonport.

From Devonport take the Bass Highway across the river and continue to Latrobe, stopping at the House of Anvers Chocolate factory on the way. At Latrobe call in to the Axemens Hall of Fame before heading west again across the river. If you have time, call in to Fonz Woodworks on the left and see the wonderful range of clocks he makes from prime Tasmanian timbers.
At Spreyton turn south on the B13 and continue through the small town of Railton on to Sheffield. Sheffield is known as the 'Town of Murals' and this will be seen as you explore the town. They are everywhere. There is hardly a wall in the town which hasn't been decorated.
Continue west with magnificent Mt Roland to the south. At Moina, turn north for around 15 km to Wilmot and visit the original Coles store. Return to Moina and continue on 19km to the turn-off to Cradle Mountain and visit the Information Centre and the region highlights.
Return to the main road (C132) and continue west to the Murchison Hwy (A10) where you turn north towards Burnie joining the B18 at the junction 16 km north.

Just before Ridgley there is a turn-off to the west and the Guide Falls (pictured opposite). The falls are just off the road and a little further on is an Alpaca Farm.
Return to the main road and continue on to Annsleigh Gardens for a visit, then the Emu Valley Rhododendron gardens before entering Burnie.
There are several places to see in Burnie and they are listed on area map. Take the Bass Hwy east and begin your trip back along the coast to Devonport.
A detour in to Penguin to see the Big Penguin which guards the foreshore and continue through the town along the back road into Ulverstone. The gardens as you leave Penguin are magnificent.
At Ulverstone, see the Memorial clock in the main street and turn left here. Turn left again at the next corner and the historic museum is on you left. After a visit, follow the same road east which will bring you back to the highway and Devonport. Take the first exit into Devonport and visit the Don Steam Railway and Museum.
