LAUNCESTON TOURING MAP
Exploring around Launceston.
Launceston is a central point to explore the whole of the north of Tasmania. A 200 km radius will take you to the east coast,
to Hobart, the Cradle Mountain and as far west as Wynyard and Stanley, But there is much to see within a short drive of the city.
To the north a round trip of the Tamar Valley is the most popular tour, enjoying the wineries and attractions of the area. To the
south east the ski fields of Ben Lomond are popular in winter, and a round trip through Evandale and Clarendon House, across
to Perth and Longford, and back through Carrick, where you can visit the Metal Art Gallery, and Hadspen to see the National Trust
listed Entally House are all short and attractive tours.
Macabre, but popular, is a trip up the East Tamar Hwy to the Beaconsfield Mine where miners Brant Webb (37) and Todd Russell (34)
were trapped underground on Anzac Day (25 April 2006) emerging in the afternoon of the 9th of May, 14 days later. Their mate and
co-worker Larry Knight (44), was killed in the rock-fall.
