The East Coast

THE HAZARDS AT COLES BAY
The East Coast of Tasmania is its holiday playground. Golden beaches, national parks, quaint fishing villages, coastal scenery, convict history and a wide variety of accommodation and attractions make it a popular destination all year round.
The road which passes through this area follows the coast most of the way from Sorell to St Helens with a minor detour to explore the wonderful Freycinet Peninsula and the pretty town of St Marys in the north.
There are several roadside wineries along the way and plenty of places to stop for a swim or a picnic. You will find most of what you want in the listings of individual towns below. You should set aside a couple of days for the trip from Hobart to Launceston via the coast. There is plenty to see and do. The main towns of the East Coast are
  • Bicheno,
  • Binalong Bay,
  • Orford,
  • Coles Bay,
  • St Helens,
  • St Marys,
  • Triabunna,
  • Scamander and
  • Beaumaris.
