Crossroads to the Bellarine Peninsula and on the coast only 30Km. south of
Geelong it is a popular surfing spot on Zeally Bay. Torquay is renowned for
its fine surf beaches and other sporting facilities include a fine 18 hole golf
course, bowling, sailing and tennis. It was settled around 1840 as 'Spring Creek'
and gazetted as Torquay in 1892.
A popular family resort it has mini-golf, skateboard ramps, BMX track, a cinema. walking tracks, an adventure playground, waterslide and grass-ski, and a safe beach with grassed foreshore. Several arts/craft shops will be found featuring local pottery, craft and weaving, and 4 motels and 5 caravan parks ensure plenty of accommodation. A feature is the Surfing Museum which is open daily. Many restaurants and take-aways supply excellent and varied food and there is a major shopping centre with all facilities.
