EXPLORING THE EAST GIPPSLAND REGION.

Take Highway 1 east through Dandenong and the Latrobe Valley to Sale or, from Sydney, the East Gippsland area begins at the Victorian border.
Many roads lead south to the coast and any of them will reveal a small coastal village with an excellent beach.
A detour from Bairnsdale to Swifts Creek will take you along the beautiful Tambo River, a very scenic drive and from Cann River you can head north towards the New South Wales border and enter the high country around Bombala and the Coopracambra National Park.
Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale are touring centres for the Lakes of the Gippsland region and a short drive to Metung, Paynesville or Lake Tyers is a pleasant detour.
Towards the eastern end of the region you should turn off the road at Genoa to visit the old bridge and there are several tracks into the Croajingalong and Alfred National Parks.

Wilkins Tourist Maps produce a map in this area. You can pick up a Sale map from accommodation houses and the information centre in Sale.
