Exploring the Macedon Ranges Area. Leave Melbourne along the Tullamarine Freeway north west past the airport and join the Calder Hwy, and continue to Diggers Rest. A short detour east to Sunbury lets you visit the cricket ground where the 'Ashes' originated and were first contested.Continue to Gisborne. Continue to the turn off to Macedon. Continue to Woodend. Detour to Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. Continue to Kyneton. Continue through Malmsbury. Turn in to Castlemaine. Either return to Harcourt and the highway and head north to Bendigo or head west a couple of km to the turn-off to Maldon and enter Bendigo from the west. Take the McIvor Hwy south east from Bendigo to Heathcote and Kilmore and join the Hume Hwy before returning to Melbourne through the northern suburbs. You can pick up a Bendigo, Kyneton, Castlemaine and Maldon, Heathcote and a Sunbury map from accommodation houses and information centres in towns in this area.
