    EXPLORING MELBOURNE & SURROUNDS.

Melbourne is the capital of Victoria and all roads, planes, and ships lead here.
From the north the main highway from Sydney is the Hume Fwy which is joined by the Newell Hwy from Queensland.
From the west, national Hwy 1 and 8 lead to Adelaide and to the east the Princes Hwy leads to Canberra and Sydney.
To the south the Spirit of Tasmania ferry leaves daily for Tasmania, but this has got ridiculously expensive aver the past few years relying on fuel prices to justify nearly trebling their costs in the past 4 years.
In 2003 a trip to Tasmania for one person in a deck chair, with a car was $99.00. I looked at the site to book yesterday (November 08) and the same fare is $242 plus.
That is one way. On board you need to buy meals and drinks, another 40 or 50 dollars. for one person.
Take the plane It's cheaper and quicker.
    AIRLINES
Melbourne has access to two major airports. Tullamarine in the north of the city and Avalon, near Geelong. Major world airlines fly in to Melbourne International and the domestic terminal handles regional airlines, Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin, and newcomer Tiger.
    RAIL
Passenger trains from all over Australia arrive and leave Melbourne regularly. There is also a comprehensivce state and metropolitan service.
    COACH
Melbourne's Interstate coach terminal is in Swanston St and you can depart or arrive here from anywhere in Australia.
