Exploring Phillip Island. Leave Melbourne and head east to Dandenong where you turn south on to the South Gippsland Hwy and continue on through Cranbourne to the Bass Hwy. The Phillip Island turn-off is clearly marked.It is easy to visit Phillip Island on a quick day trip but if you want to see its main feature, the Penguin Parade, which occurs at dusk, you are advised to stay the night. There is plenty of varied accommodation on the island and a search of the area using the form at right will find you somewhere to stay. While you are in the area you should also visit nearby Wonthaggi and Inverloch.
