Busy town in the ranges between Bright and Wodonga. Has a rich bushranging history including the cell where Ned Kelly was held before being transported to Melbourne to stand trial.
The Beechworth Bakery has become one of the most popular in Victoria and now operates in Echuca and Bendigo providing excellent bakery products including the much sought after 'Bee Stings'.
The historic precinct in the main street includes the old post office and town hall and tours of the old gaol are popular.
Beechworth is a good touring centre for the region including the Alpine resort at Falls Creek.

    By car or coach along the Hume Hwy from Melbourne or Sydney. Turn off at Wangaratta, Wodonga or Myrtleford on the Great Alpine Road (Ovens Hwy). There is an aerodrome at Wangaratta.
