The pretty seaside town of Mornington was once the main town on the peninsula which bears its name, but now, growth of Melbourne has practically made it a southern suburb. This however, does not detract from its seaside atmosphere and it is still a popular destination for a break on the Mornington Peninsula.
The own overlooks Port Phillip Bay and has safe swimming beaches and many parks and playgrounds. At Schnapper Pont there is a jetty which provides fishing opportunities and opposite is a restaurant with wonderful views of the beach and bay.
The main street is lined with shops providing a wealth of variety and there are many restaurants and cafes to spend a little time in. there is also an excellent golf course to the north of the town.
Mornington is an ideal central base to explore the Paninsula and most attractions are within a short drive.
In the 19th century paddlesteamers operated from the historic jetty bringing visitors from Melbourne to the Peninsula for recreation.
