Shire and noted as the habitat of the Lowan Bird, or Mallee Fowl, abundant in the Little Desert National Park.
Tours operate from Nhill and there is a wilderness lodge in the park south of Nhill. A Lowan Bird Monument will be seen in front of Council Offices to this Mallee Fowl which builds large earth mounds to incubate its eggs. In the park at the centre of Nhill is a Draught Horse Memorial: remembering the horses which helped the early settlers. John Shaw Nielson Cottage: Poet's cottage and park on the highway west of town. Nhill Post Office: (1888) classified National Trust. Nhill is a typical country Australian town with verandahed shops, several pubs and a variety of shops offering everything from food to stockmans clothing.
