WORK PERMITS At any time there are around 55,000 visitors in Australia using work permits issued by the department. This figure is currently under review and is expected to be increased in number. Severe penalties apply to visitors working in Australia without a permit and deportation is frequent. Permits are usually for 3 months and are issued free.
