BUSSELTON - WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Busselton is a seaside town south of Perth on Geographe Bay and is a popular holiday destination with a population of 18,000 swelling to some 60,000 in the high season.
It was named after pioneer settlers, the Bussell family and the main street, follows the track cut by John Bussell to reach the coast from the river.
In a timber producing area providing much of Australia's hardwoods including Jarrah and Karri, Busselton prospered as a port and a 2 km jetty was built to service shipping. The jetty is the longest in the southern hemisphere.
The nearby wineries of the Margaret River region are well worth a visit.
