Forest management and administration centre for the Jarrah forests in the region. The Hotham Valley Scenic Railway operates from the town which has become a popular tourism destination.
Dwellingup is also near the largest bauxite mine in the world at Huntly providing ore to the Pinjarra and Kwinana aluminium refineries.
