EUCLA - WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Small town and truck stop 11km. over the South Australian border into Western Australia.
Founded in 1877 as a telegraph station on the western line it is now a popular service stop for travellers. It sits atop the Hampton Tablelands a short distance from some of Australia's most spectacular coastline along the Great Australian Bight.
Whale watching from the cliff tops of the bight has been increasing over recent years as populations recover and these will be seen between April and September.
There is a meteorological station at Eucla which is open to viasitors and the Eucla Museum contains historic photographs and newspaper articles relating to Eucla. The ruins of the old Telegraph Station will be found 4km south of the town centre.
Fishing around the coast near Eucla is a popular and rewarding pastime.
