EXMOUTH - WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Exmouth is one of Australia's newer towns, only founded in 1967 as a support town for the U.S. Naval Communications Centre. It is on a peninsula west of the highway and is adjacent to the Ningaloo Marine Park and the Cape Range National Park.
It is a major recreational fishing area and there are many charter vessel operators in the town. The Ningaloo Marine Park also offers diving on coral reefs and the uspoiled crystal clear coastal waters and beautiful environment are a real delight. From mid March to mid June each year Whale Sharks begin to congregate in the Ningaloo Marine Park. These massive creature can grow up to 18 metres long and you have a chance to snorkel with them on one of the daily tours (in season).

The first recorded landing at the cape was by Dutch Captain Jacobsz in 1618. Two hndred years later Captain Philip Parker King named the Peninsula North West Cape and the gulf, Exmouth Gulf, in honour of a Royal Navy officer.
