At the junction of the Gascoyne and Lyons Rivers. The Gascoyne River was named by explorer Lieutenant George Grey in 1839 after his friend, Captain J. Gascoyne (RN).
A police station was built in 1879 and a general store, hotel and some other buildings appeared betore 1912 when it was named Killili after a local aboriginal word meaning bullrushes. The present town was gazetted in 1939.
Today it is a small centre for mining and wool production and offers accommodation and limited facilities to travellers.
