Surrounded by vineyards and grazing this is a rich township 360km south east of Perth on the way to Albany. European settlement began around the 1830s and the opening of the Perth/Albany Railway in 1889 helped ensure the town's future with the first store opening in 1890. The Stirling and Porongurup Range National Parks are located nearby. Accommodation includes motels, a caravan park and a number of bed & breakfasts.
