CLIMATE AND WEATHER:
  • Temperature and Rainfall Chart
  • Australia is world famous for its wonderful sunny climate, the thousands of kilometres of beaches, and its hot dry interior.
It is not as well known that overnight temperatures can reach into double digit below zero and many parts are subject to severe flooding and earthquakes.
In the high country between Victoria and New South Wales day temperatures sometimes don't rise much above freezing point during the snow season, and the coldest recorded temperature overnight in the heart of the country at Alice Springs is -7.5 degrees...I know...I was there ! The hottest summer day there is around 45 degrees C or 110 F.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology monitors all these details daily and their home page has full detailed records and predictions of what you can expect where you are going
The table below indicates highest and lowest temperatures for the seasons in the capital city of each state. Because most states are so large, this will vary as you get further from the coast, or into higher country.
Basically, summer in Australia is HOT!! Temperatures can reach 50 degrees in some places or around 120 degrees Farenheit in the old money.
