This rainforest area national park has a wide variety of native flora and fauna including prolific platypus in the rivers. The name comes from the aboriginal word for åland of clouds¼ and is pronounced 'young-g-lah'. The Finch Hatton Gorge section of the park is spectacular with waterfalls and walking trails throughout its 51,700 hectare area and is one of Queensland's most popular parks.
A mix of tropical and temporate rainforest is home to around 200 species of birds including the rare Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher and the Wompoo Pigeon.
A kiosk at Broken River provides refreshments and information or you can take your own picnic lunch to enjoy in the shady forest.
There is a platypus viewing platform at Broken River with the best times to see these elusive creatures at dawn and dusk. Night spot-lighting eco tours, bird-watching and interpretive walks also operate from Broken River.
