Located on Oyster Bay, 214 km. north-west of Adelaide, on the eastern
side of the peninsula,Stansbury has a population of around 450. This pretty
coastal township is a popular holiday spot offering fishing, swimming, sailing
and other water-sports, and was proclaimed in 1873 by Governor Musgrave. It
was once a major port servicing the agricultural industry of the hinterland
and a flourishing lime and cement industry. It was the birth-place of the large
'Adelaide-Brighton Cement' company, and the largest limestone quarry
in South Australia is nearby at Klein Point. Remains of the early limestone
kilns can still be seen near the town and a local Museum recalls its history.
There are 2 motels, holiday units, a hotel and caravan park.
