First settled in 1881 Corinna, once known as Royenrine, was a major gold mining town in its heyday. The biggest gold nugget ever found in Tasmania was mined at Rocky River in 1883 and weighed an amazing 243 ounces. There is a ferry crossing of the Pieman River here and a new environmental lodge on the northern bank which has accommodation, wonderful views and nestles comfortably among the rainforest.
The resort has become a destination in itself now and attracts people who just want to relax by the beautiful river, take a cruise, and enjoy the atmosphere. Enquiries on 03 6446 1170 or view the website at www.corinna.com.au.
