THE HERITAGE (MIDLAND) HIGHWAY

Hobart to the Ferry

The Heritage Highway passes through the Central Highlands and many historic and well-preserved towns which reflect the early settlement of Tasmania.
At Ross you will see Australia's oldest bridge, Campbell Town is a beautiful town with many historic buildings to explore and the Oatlands Mill, and other stone buildings in the town are a delight to visit.
Near Evandale is the mansion, Clarendon House, and at Jericho you will see the ruins of the holding cells for prisoners being transported between Launceston and Hobart.

Watch for sculptures an the western side of the road between Kempton and Oatlands.
To the west of the road between Campbell Town and Epping Forest is the turn-off to Poatina, one of the first Hydro Electricity towns of the system, and you will also see the Symmons Plains raceway to the east of the road closer to Launceston.
