Brisbane Ranges National Park - Ballarat

In the Brisbane Ranges National Park.

The Brisbane Ranges National Park is an area of 7,470 hectares lying just north of Anakie and east of Meredith. It was declared a National Park in 1979.
The ranges are particularly noted for wildflowers and one third of Victoria's flora species will be found there, some rare, like the Brisbane Ranges Grevillea. In spring there are magnificent displays of wattle, hakea, bush peas and orchids.
Grey kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and koalas may be seen and 110 species of native birds are recorded.
In the 1850s gold was discovered in the Anakie Hills and in 1855, the first of many reefs was found at Steiglitz.
The Steiglitz Historic Park is adjacent to, and part of, the Brisbane Ranges tour.
