Steiglitz is now almost a ghost town. In the 1850's and 1890's it
was a busy gold mining town with hotels, shops and churches and a population
of over 1,000.
Among the buildings remaining are the Old Courthouse, which has a display
of old photographs, maps and memorabilia; an Old Church, and a 2 story brick
building in Clow St., which was a grocery.
A cemetery 2km. south on the Maude Rd, has many graves dating back to last
century and is well worth a visit, the Courthouse-Museum is open on Sundays
and Public Holidays, but you can explore the park at any time.
The Brisbane Ranges National Park is adjacent to Steiglitz and
should be included on a tour.
