Steiglitz is now almost a ghost town. In the 1850's and 1890's it
was a busy gold mining town with hotels, shops and churches and a population
of over 1,000.
Among the buildings remaining are the Old Courthouse, which has a display of old photographs, maps and memorabilia; an Old Church, and a 2 story brick building in Clow St., which was a grocery. A cemetery 2km. south on the Maude Rd, has many graves dating back to last century and is well worth a visit, the Courthouse-Museum is open on Sundays and Public Holidays, but you can explore the park at any time.
