Whistlestop roadhouse on the Eyre Highway with a fuel, food and accommodation, and a caravan park. The area was settled in 1879 when the original Balladonia Homestead was established to the east. The roadhouse now houses a Cultural Heritage Museum which features remnants of SkyLab, a satellite space station which spread debris across the area when it burned up on re-entry in 1979.
The highway between Balladonia and Caiguna is one of the longest straight stretches of road in the world at 146km.
Once a repeater station on the telegraph line between Adelaide and Perth, the ruins can be seen to the east of the roadhouse although sand is reclaiming the site. To the south the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight are believed to be the longest in the world.
