Founded on gold in the 1880s, Donnybrook is now an agricultural district supplying fruit and vegetables, with sheep, timber and dairy products supporting a healthy economy.
It is the state's oldest apple growing region with trees blossoming in October creating a fabulous panorama. The entrance to town features two big apples above the welcome sign and apple shaped lights line the entrance to the old Railwau Station.
There is a 7.5 metre 'Big Apple' on a 20 metre tower overlooking the town which is listed among Australia's Big Things.
At Easter in 2014 the bi-annual Apple Festival will be held in Egan Park and the 'Apple Queen' will be crowned for the next 2 years.
Donnybrook is also home to Australia's largest English Oak believed to date to 1893. The Old Goldfields Orchard and Cider Factory has a small museum tracing the history of the goldrush.
