THE CLARE VALLEY

Clare is located 140 kilometres north of Adelaide and is at the centre of a largewine producing area with many historic old homesteads dating back to the1840's which can be visited.
Large deposits of copper were found in Kapunda in 1842, and Burra in 1845 and thisattracted miners from Cornwall and Wales to flock to the area in search of work andwealth. By 1851 the population of Burra was 5,000, even larger than Brisbane and Perth combinedat that time.

There are some 25 wineries set on the rolling slopes of the valley and manyare open 7 days for tastings and sales. Nearby the towns of Auburn, Blyth, Tarlee,Leasingham, Sevenhill, Spalding and Mintaro all offer distinctive attractions for the visitor and Burra is one of the areas leading tourism drawcards witha history dating back to the 1840s when it was one of the largest copper producersin the state.
The area is rich in galleries and museums and the nearby Bungaree Stationand Geralka Rural Farm offer farm stay accommodation.
Clare and Burra have a host of accommodation ranging from motels and hotelsto caravan parks and guest houses. there are also many fine restaurants andcoffee houses to enjoy.
